Question 4 -
How effectively was the concept of “transportation” explored? Do you think that this student successfully communicated transportation as the main idea of the composition; if not what do you think the main concept is?
The main concept in this composition seems to be skating. The concept of skating as a mode of transportation is referenced by some of the photographs within the skate shape, including the children on the sidewalk and the street signs. The other photos reference skating as a form of entertainment and competition, which does detract from the idea of skating as transportation being dominate. I think the focus of this piece is more the exploration of a potential method of transportation and it’s many different uses, rather than transportation itself. I do think the composition is very visually appealing and really like the use of texture and color to highlight the shape.
Question 5 – Personal Perspective – Quality
What do you think of the quality of the design and composition? Do you believe the composition was well thought out, reasons? Were the elements of space, line and shape effectively used (yes and no not acceptable answers)?
I think that the quality of the design is a bit confusing. Though after very in depth analyzation at a second look I see the the use of space to focus on the center shape of the skate which is the main focus. The inner pictures are a bit hard to distinguish but seem to be people rollerskating and different kinds of rollerskates add creativity. I think this piece was very well though out in the way it used the pictures inside the roller state and the L looking shape to imply the line of the rollerskate. The shape of the piece defenitly stands out with the use of the plain colors in the negative space. I give this piece alot of perks for it’s creativity and uniqueness. Very nice work.
